Hi Sebastian, Didier PH Martin said: > a) XML-dev a presentation about the OpenJade project, its collaborators, > what's happening now, and some reflections about the next DSSSSL-2 > specifications. Sebastian said: Much as I applaud all this work on Open Jade, I too am uneasy about the way "DSSSL-2" seems to be gaining some kind of life of its own. I think a clear distinction should be made between + OpenJade, a new product based on Clark's Jade, implementing DSSSL better and better + OpenJade extensions to DSSSL, like Clark's extensions (which are clearly necessary) - A revision of DSSSL - A unnamed DSSSL-like language I really do not think an unchartered group should abrogate to itself the ISO DSSSL name, and start calling an extended language DSSSL-2. we have probably been here before. it just makes me uneasy, politically. direct action is not justified at this point. Didier says: Don't worry even if some do not make these distinctions I do. Also, the actual Document Description and Processing Languages ISO chapter is mandated to handle the DSSSL future. And, do not worry about hijackers, I am a member of the CAC/ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC34 committee and I intent to follow the rules and procedures of my committee and of my ISO chapter as well. If you want to check if this chapter is accredited for DSSSL work just look at the following link: http://infoseek.go.com/?win=_search&sv=M6&lk=noframes&nh=10&ud9=IE5&qt=ISO&o q=&url=http%3A//lcweb.loc.gov/loc/standards/isotc46/&ti=ISO/TC46/SC4+Home+Pa ge&top= James Mason, said not too far ago (and I said that in my messages if you have read them well) that several countries expressed their interest to continue the DSSSL efforts. These are: USA Japan Canada. More particularly ken and me expressed the will to present a draft specifications to our fellow ISO colleagues for discussion, amendments, approvals or for more formal work with other commitees. James Mason also called for action from members of this list to be part of the process by joining their local ISO committees so that their knowledge and wisdom about DSSSL could enrich the ISO process. James Mason, Ken Holman or me can help you find the right person to communicate with in your local country representant so that you could be part of the ISO DSSSL-2 process. This has nothing to do with a command line switch or about the DSSSL-2 extended features. I cannot understand why you said that??? What I am doing is: a) improving OpenJade as an OpenJade team member (Do not forget that James also worked in the implementation in addition to work actively on the specs and the ISO activities - So, it is allowed by ISO to work on an implementation and also participate to ISO activities. It is even probably better, because at least the knowledge is grounded in realities). b) working toward a draft proposal as a first base for future specifications work. I do not mix these two activities and be re-assured on my mental health. I can make the difference. So Sebastian, I really, but really do not understand your comments. Re-read the messages, you missed something important. regards Didier PH Martin mailto:martind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.netfolder.com -----Original Message----- From: owner-dssslist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:owner-dssslist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Sebastian Rahtz Sent: Thursday, August 12, 1999 12:05 PM To: dssslist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: About XML to multiple language/multiple outputs Didier PH Martin writes: > a) XML-dev a presentation about the OpenJade project, its collaborators, > what's happening now, and some reflections about the next DSSSSL-2 > specifications.
