Dear Soichi Tokizane --

I am happy to see that you are so clearly thinking about how you will use the JATS to meet your needs.

It seems to me that this is a topic that the NISO committee should discuss as an official request. Since this list is a place for informal conversation among users of the JATS but not an official part of the NISO/JATS infrastructure, may I suggest that you send this suggestion (and any other suggestions on how you think the JATS should be modified) to the official NISO feedback page: (http://www.niso.org/apps/group_public/document.php?document_id=6135)

Thank you.

Dear Everyone,

SPJ would like to propose just one more idea, regarding
coding Japanese language articles, especially humanity science
articles. They often use ruby, that expresses pronounciation
of Chinese characters which almost always have more than one,
often several, different pronounciations.
The use of ruby is defined in HTML5 using <ruby> and <rt>.
http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#the-ruby-element

We would like to propose introducing a ruby tag as much like
the bold or underline tags, as follows.

<ruby>e$f-&e30<rt>c(cc.c?c-</rt><ruby>
or
<rubigrp>e$f-&e30<rubi>c(cc.c?c-</rubi></rubigrp>

This will be useful not only for Japanese but also European
users who want to code index/pronounciation expression
for non-English words in body texts.

Please consider.

Best regards,

Soichi Tokizane
