Just thought it might be worth mentioning the problem that the namespace URIs are resolved relative to the namespace declaration. Not a problem here, where everything happens in one stylesheet, but if a different stylesheet in another directory imported this one and tried to use the same extension function then certain types of namespace URI (e.g. ones that look like relative file paths) would cause problems.
