Pre-1972 sound recordings

Dear colleagues:

The Copyright Office has filed a Notice of Inquiry in the Federal
Register regarding pre-1972 sound recordings, which currently are
protected by state statutory and common law. While at first blush,
bringing everything under the 1976 Act may appear to make sense, whether
and just how to do so could raise a number of issues. Comments should be
sent by December 3.
