RE>[stella] Frying 7/2/98 i haven't tried frying a newer cart, but there is a list attached to this email from b-tech, that tells of a lot of cool effects from frying and other neat tricks. check them out. timm carr -------------------------------------- Date: 7/2/98 12:59 PM To: Timm Carr From: jvmatthe Not that it has a whole lot to do with programming, but it is kind of relevant... Has anyone that owns one of the newer games on cartridge (Oystron, TPS, Okie Dokie, to name a few) tried frying their 2600 to see if you get any neat effects? You could get some neat effects with some of the old games by doing this; one I remember was the "fast walkers" in the Empire Strikes Back from Parker Bros. Also, it seems like Ruffin and I were able to get the "ninja Pitfall Harry" one time with a Pitfall cartridge, but maybe I'm imagining that. Anyway, I wondered if the new games had any fairly easily repeatable effects by frying them. matt PS. For those that don't know what "frying" is, it means turning your 2600 on in such a way that it doesn't boot up quite right. This is probably a method reserved for the old style Atari 2600s, since the newer versions had slightly different switches. Good ones to try it on are the "woodgrain" 2600s and the "Darth Vader" 2600s. Perhaps on a 2600Jr, as well, but probably harder to do. -- Archives (includes files) at http://www.biglist.com/lists/stella/archives/ Unsub & more at http://www.biglist.com/lists/stella/stella.html RFC-822 Header: ---------------------------------------------------- Received: from biglist.com (biglist.com [207.240.140.203]) by vego.interaccess.com (8.8.8/8.7.5) with ESMTP id MAA16738 for <timm.carr@xxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 2 Jul 1998 12:08:21 -0500 (CDT) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by biglist.com (8.8.8/8.8.5) id NAA10542 for stella-outgoing; Thu, 2 Jul 1998 13:39:42 -0400 (EDT) Received: from sun13-247ha.pams.ncsu.edu (sun13-247ha.pams.ncsu.edu [152.1.180.36]) by biglist.com (8.8.8/8.8.5) with ESMTP id NAA10538 for <stella@xxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 2 Jul 1998 13:39:38 -0400 (EDT) From: jvmatthe@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Received: (from jvmatthe@localhost) by sun13-247ha.pams.ncsu.edu (8.8.4/UC02Jan97) id NAA11797 for stella@xxxxxxxxxxx; Thu, 2 Jul 1998 13:24:24 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <199807021724.NAA11797@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [stella] Frying To: stella@xxxxxxxxxxx (stella) Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1998 13:24:23 -0400 (EDT) X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24/POP] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-stella@xxxxxxxxxxx Precedence: bulk Reply-To: stella@xxxxxxxxxxx
