This doesn't really pertain much to the Stella list, but there are
programming libraries that can simplify cross platform GUI development.

This company was started by a guy I know and their products seem pretty
cool, and I think you can get a free license for non-commercial use.

I am always impresssed to see handcrafted assembly language used in a
program, but I think most of our possible tool projects don't really merit
this level of optimization.  As is, DASM, DiStella, and MAKEWAV already
run acceptably fast in my opinion and I think the portability possible
with carefully written C outweighs the possible benefits from assembly
language optimizations.
