There was enough reverse engineering done so that the program was able to work on the system, and it is not intended to felicitate new development, not to infringe on previous development. I'd say go for it, but if you really want that warm and fuzzy "legal" feeling, you're not going to get it unless you get it straight from Hasbro's mouthpiece.
