as well, it is using finer structures in the relevant scanlines.
The VCS is not capable of displaying these structures, so we won't
be able to use teletext in any of our games.

By finer you mean on the horizontal or that it uses multiple fields?


The 2600 could be told to only display on every other frame to make sure the tall pixels don't bleed through to what the decoder interprets as the other field if that's the problem.
