[stella] Playbin for Atari?

Ever since Playbin came out I've been wondering whether it might be 
possible to write something like that for the Atari 8-bits.  Shouldn't 
POKEY be able to handle generating a Starpath-compatible audio signal?  Who 
wants to try this??
