Of course, I might be thinking ahead to this as a general purpose tool
that might have pluggable kernals, not just as a clean wrapper to the
single kernal you've provided

I haven't played around with this yet but what I would want a mode that simply pumps out code rather than being a kernel wizard. 

Then the majority of the code could be optimized ASM with blocks of BASIC that plays nice with eachother.
