I meant that in FOP and XEP, there is a straightforward way of getting the number of pages formatted. As far as I remember, PassiveTeX does not do pagination itself, delegating it to TeX; therefore, reporting the number of pages depends on the underlying pdftex machinery, which may or may not provide the correspondent interface at the script level - I simply don't know, and therefore avoid making assumptions. > your example depresses me, because I realize that I do not allow for > falling through a sequence of sub masters in a > page-sequence-master. ah well. It is only one of possible solutions; I have another one that uses fo:marker/fo:retrieve-marker; but it's a lot clumsier. Do you support markers already?
