Subject: question from a copyright newbie From: "Nancy Guadagno" <NGuadagno@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Mon, 27 Sep 2004 11:49:46 -0400 |
My organization's small (but growing!) press will be publishing a book that features a poem, usually a part thereof, at the beginning of each chapter. I can think of several ways to handle this: 1. Cite the poem to the book from which it was copied (e.g., page 24, The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson with the citation in proper style) 2. Request permission from the publisher of the book from which it was copied (e.g., the publisher of The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson) 3. Request permission from the copyright holder of the poem (e.g., Amherst College or whatever/whoever holds the copyright to her poems -- ee-gaad, I hope this isn't necessary!) Please feel free to reply off-list if it is more appropriate. Thank you in advance for your informed suggestions. Nancy Guadagno nguadagn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
