I've seen that Junior Pac-Man.  The only port without a scrolling
screen of any kind, if I remember, which made it more like Pac-Man
without escape tunnels.  Though, that's a better mistake than the
limitless Pac-Mania clones which allow the ghosts decide to reverse
direction on you as you jump over them.  Every Pac-Mania port I've
seen, except the X68 one, had this flaw and it ruined the game for
me.

Indeed, due to MAME I've become increasingly dependent on certain traits
of the arcade Pac-Man, going so far as counting the blinks to determine
whether to continue pursuing a monster.  Blue ghosts blink five times
before returning to normal, until late in the game.

Huh?  well, I've heard "flashing" used as a synonym for flickering.
And that's what you're doing.  The word "that" signified the beginning
of a subordinate clause in the sentence.
