One of the cool things you could do, though, is have two very different 
subjects, left vs. right, and optimize the triads for each side.

Like you could have Kermit the Frog on the left with a green-shifted triad 
and Sam Fox on the right with a skin-color-shifted triad and hide the 
transition over a black background.

Of course, with only 40 huge pixels to play with it might not look that 
good vs. a single portrait.
