Damn that's some good kung-fu! Particularly since the low bit of any colour register is meaningless...

So now that you've eliminated 4 cycles for me (Both those LDA's can go) maybe I _can_ make a completely flexible playfield now. Well, the RAM concerns haven't gone away, but maybe I can do some squeezing....
