a full implementation of DSSSL doesn't take us much further, unless we
have a back end capable of rendering the flow objects. Since TeX is
one of the few candidates for a complete, open, typesetting system
with which to render the FOBs, we cannot go around in circles
forever. We have to resolve the detailed issues that David is raising.
