I agree with Barbara. The Assistive Technology Initiative at George Mason University is a member of Bookshare, which provides students who have documented learning or physical disabilities with alternative text formats. The ATI also sponsors a web site called "VA HEAT" that serves as a resource for a consortium of higher ed institutions in Virginia; briefly, this partnership functions as a lending library for e-texts to enrolled students with print-related disabilities. Participating students must show proof of purchase for each course required text book to be scanned (i.e., evidence it is a legal copy) and must sign a copyright agreement provided by the institution (see http://ati.gmu.edu/va_heat.html). Institutions must comply with additional partnership and copyright requirements.
