The colours for the three objects could be preloaded, so that there wouldn't be that many colour changes nessessary during the display of the cube. You could even change the background colour during the cube display and have it shine through where nessessary. If the object pattern and the timing for the colour changes was chosen carefully, I'm pretty certain that the cube display could be generated this way.
